Orthopedic Modifications

We know how important accuracy is when providing orthopedic shoe modifications. An eighth or sixteenth of an inch… medial versus lateral… measurements and terminology really matter when providing shoe lifts, flares, buttresses and wedges. Those are only a few of the orthopedic modifications we can fabricate.

David has over 30 years of experience as an orthopedic shoe technician. He learned state-of-the-art best practices in Ball State’s Pedorthic Management of the Foot course. David has an additional 20 years of experience as an orthotic and prosthetic technician, and Sheila has worked as an orthotist for over 30 years. This means not only can we provide a wide array of shoe modifications, we also understand the requirements, options and consequences of the modifications.

Do you have a fused ankle or wear an AFO? We can modify your shoe to fit over your device, or a rocker sole to improve your gait and function.

If you wear an orthotic device on only one leg, you may require either an internal or external lift on the opposite side to be certain your hips are level, as these devices often create an artificial leg length discrepancy (LLD). This is extremely important to ensure you have proper balance when standing and walking, and that you do not develop related knee, hip or back pain.
